SDDM freezes instantly after login

I recently installed Arch Linux on my laptop. I wanted to try KDE Plasma as a Desktop Environment, but I also wanted to try i3-gaps as a window manager. I had used Plasma a couple of times after the install, without problems. After installing i3-gaps, I selected it in SDDM, but the screen froze (cursor was still movable) and I coulnd´t access my device again until a restart.

I am currently only able to get into Plasma (Wayland). Plasma (X11) suffers from the same problem as i3 (freeze after login with correct password)

I have never had this problem yet, searched a lot online but couldn´t find the solution. I´d gladly appreciate any help with this problem.

The journal says that after ~10 seconds you switched to another VT?
Can you switch the VT before attempting to log into an X11 session, but no afterwards?
Can you still ssh into the system afterwards?

Otherwise the log looks unsuspicious but for xf86-video-vesa - you're also on

so it's rather not the very recent i915 issue in 5.19.8+ kernels.
