Dolby Digital Live not working

I'm going to keep this point form. I'm visually impaired .

Optical out from motherboard to AVR.

Stereo PCM audio works no problem, but when enabling Digital Surround 5.1 (AKA: Dolby Digital Live, or AC3 encoding) the audio becomes garbled (AVR recognizes the signal change). DDL works under Windows.

Pass through AC3 and DTS function normally.

Let me know what other information is required to help troubleshoot this.
