Uncorrect webpage visualization with all browsers

On my arch installation, which is up-to-date, this webpage is displayed wrongly

https://portal.hpc.fau.de/

For example, on the lower part of the page, a I see a series of links labelled, literally, as "contact.label", "imprint.label", "privacy.label", "accessibility.label".
It looks like as the CSS are not correctly loaded, or as if something is missing in the rendering of the website. Unfortunately, it also makes the website unusable, as, for instance, the login button gives an almost empty window.

A screenshot here illustrates better the problem.

Strangely enough, the same rendering is found using google-chrome and konqueror. On the other hand, other users on other distros (e.g. ubuntu), have reported me that the website works. So I suppose that maybe a package is missing from my installation?

Re: Uncorrect webpage visualization with all browsers

Using current Firefox on Arch here and it's all displaying correctly for me.

Have you tried Firefox to see if the issue still occurs?

No, it didn't "fix" anything. It just shifted the brokeness one space to the right. - jasonwryan

Sorry, the post was not clear. Yes, I tried firefox 105.0.1-1, google-chrome 106.0.5249.61-1, konqueror 22.08.1-1.

Re: Uncorrect webpage visualization with all browsers

The entire webpage is build on the client via javascript.
I guess the localization fails because of your locale settings or merely your location and resorts to the variable verbatim.

Re: Uncorrect webpage visualization with all browsers

I noticed that wiping the .mozilla directory, the website is correctly rendered.
Unfortunately, this is at most a temporary solution, as I would not want to lose settings/bookmarks/etc.

Re: Uncorrect webpage visualization with all browsers

That suggests something in your settings is wrong. There's a chance the something is an addon .

Does the site work if you restart firefox to 'Troubleshoot Mode' (used to be called safe mode) ?

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

(A works at time B)  && (time C > time B ) ≠  (A works at time C)

No,  in troubleshoot mode the page is still wrongly displayed.

I have the same issue on Arch with Firefox and on Debian with Firefox-esr. My system locale is set on fr_FR.UTF-8 (French).
Changing the browser locale configuration from French to English doesn't change anything.

But on your site, if I choose a language in the upper right menu, all is displayed correctly both in English or Deutsch.

Hope it can help.

Re: Uncorrect webpage visualization with all browsers

Try to set all locale configurations to de_DE.UTF-8 or en_US.UTF-8, I'm pretty sure that's the webpage.

Before permanently changing the locale, I have tried to temporarily changing LANG as

$ LANG="de_DE.UTF-8" firefox

$LANG="de_DE.UTF-8" firefox

This however does not change the rendering of the website.
I have also tried to set "English (GB)" as default language in the internal settings of firefox, with no effect.

Wow, this works also for me. Thanks a lot for finding it out!!

Re: Uncorrect webpage visualization with all browsers

a) make sure there's no firefox process lingering around ("ps aux | grep fire"), otherwise you just IP the control process and that will not pick up the environment from the remote call
b) Then try "LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 LC_ALL=de_DE.UTF-8 firefox"

Thanks for your suggestions, but unfortunately the rendering of the webpage is unchanged...
I have also tried to open it in a "private window".

Moreover, I have tried also with chrome (checking of course that no process chrome was running):

LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 LC_ALL=de_DE.UTF-8 google-chrome-stable

Once again, on both the regular and the incognito mode, the rendering of the webpage is incorrect. In fact the only difference I noticed is that the menus of chrome are in german. On firefox, menus are always displayed in english.

Re: Uncorrect webpage visualization with all browsers

So, for chromium I can trigger this by moving Italiano to the top of the list in chrome://settings/languages
Having either German or (US) English there works nicely

Edit: you've to reload the page after chaning the setting.

Correct, also with google-chrome-stable the webpage is correctly rendered when I move english on the top in the language settings.

Yes, I always reloaded.
