You can also change the font used in the greeter and/or theme. Configuration is explained in the wiki article InfamousMower linked or see the manual page for sddm.conf.

but after updating to kde-unstable and testing repos

and a few reboots

I managed to get the right view

look, the circles are not glued to each other and are centered vertically
