Windows stuck at 60fps on a 120hz monitor

After I installed a new gpu all my windows are stuck at 60fps but my cursor still moves at the expected frame rate. I tried reinstalling the drivers and deleting xorg.conf. I'm using an nvidia 3070
Here is the output of `xrandr -q`:

Re: Windows stuck at 60fps on a 120hz monitor

I solved the problem by making my monitor the primary monitor using

 xrandr --output mymonitor --primary
