Hi,
There are currently two AUR entries for Forticlient:
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/forticlient
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/forticlient-vpn
They both package the same software, albeit it with different SKUs. The former is for the full-fat client with all the additional endpoint protection and user license requirements, the latter is the free version.
Neither however are currently ideal; as you can see from the comments the former is broken, and the latter is an old version (v7.0.0 2021-04-27) which isn't ideal for security-related software and will likely prevent users connecting in some scenarios.
As I needed the client I've build myself a new PKGBUILD for v7.0.7 which works fine for me. Currently that same PKGBUILD can install either of the SKUs by uncommenting the relevant _sku and sha512sum lines within that file which is fine as it was initially just for me. I've just supplied it to someone else now as well though, so wondered perhaps if it was worth sorting the situation in AUR out.
My question is twofold and quite simple - firstly what is the AUR standard for a setup where you have two packages that are from the same vendor, are the same version, install the same way but one provides a superset of the other? Is it best to keep two separate packages?
The second part depends on the first - presumably it's worth me contacting one or both of the maintainers about updating the package(s) so they are current and work?
Regards,
Scott

You can mark packages in the AUR out-of-date. You can also contact their maintainer(s). If you can't track down the maintainer or the maintainer isn't interested anymore, you can request a packaged be orphaned and then adopt it.

The latest released version from the official Fortinet website for the free edition is 7.0.0.0018, which is what the AUR forticlient-vpn package provides. Where are you getting a 7.0.7 download from?

The Fortinet support portal; I have a customer account with a support contract. It seems a strange decision on their part that you can download the latest full client without a support contract, but not the free version. Thanks for pointing that out.
cfr; thanks for the input. In light of the comments from twelveeighty, I'll contact the maintainer of the forticlient package as that is better suited to flipping between the full and free builds easily because they are the same version and have the same packaging and likely will going forwards too. The earlier free version used by forticlient-vpn likely does not.
As an aside I spent a few years working across Cymru for the NHS. It's a beautiful part of the country.

You should edit your initial post to mark this as solved when you're ready.

It's a country - not part of one!

Perhaps jasonwryan is thinking of our First Minister in the Senedd yesterday?

I was probably too close to the bridge; I didn't really come across it very often!
I lots count of the number of times I heard "<insert expletive here> English" in the office though. All in good humour!
