I built nvidia-vulkan-dkms from AUR and it's working fine.  Another issue I had with the 520 driver that might be related was that window animations were somewhat broken.  For example the burn-my-windows effects would continue displaying the full window underneath the animation and then when the animation finished the window would disappear.  This issue also went away when I reverted to the 515 series driver.

Downgrading Nvidia drivers to 515.76 works. Meanwhile please add an upvote on the post mentioned above. Thanks everyone for your help.
