[SOLVED] NVIDIA Quadro K1100M, external monitor stopped working

I am using HP ZBook 15. It has NVIDIA Quadro K1100M, (and according to HP, supports NVIDIA Optimus). I am using nvidia-470xx-drm drivers from AUR for it (no, intel drivers installed). I have been using it for a few years, so don't remember any configuration I did to setup the display.

I have been using an external monitor with it, and everything was working fine until today morning, when I woke it from sleep, it froze. After restart, it would boot properly but won't start sddm, I could switch to tty2-6 and use console without any issue though.

After few hours of trying everything from reinstalling drivers (and installing intel drivers) to reinstalling kernel and changing different boot params, I changed "Hybrid Graphics" from "Auto" to "Enabled" in BIOS and it started working. But now it doesn't detect external display. If I switch "Hybrid Graphics" to "Auto" or "Disabled" it goes back to not loading SDDM.

TLDR
- Laptop Froze
- Restarted, but it won't load SDDM, console worked fine.
- Switched "Hybrid Graphics" from "Auto" to "Enabled" in BIOS, and SDDM/KDE loads fine now.
- But not detecting external monitor now.

$ lspci | grep -i vga
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GK107GLM [Quadro K1100M] (rev a1)

This is always same, for Hybrid Graphics "Auto", "Enabled" or "Disabled"

Any suggestions or things to check?

Check the system journal - the nvidia module might fail because of IBT or because the module failed to build, https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=280427 or because optimus fails w/o ACPI support, https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 1#p2062391

Re: [SOLVED] NVIDIA Quadro K1100M, external monitor stopped working

Thanks. Looked at the threads and that's the issue.

I installed the linux-lts before, but hadn't installed headers package so nvidia drivers weren't built for it. Everything is working fine now.

Issue solved for now, but when lts jumps to version 6, we will have the same issue, and since it's such an old vga, I doubt there will be an update from NVIDIA, in that case, can there be any permanent solution?

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 3#p2062513

nvidia still releases updates for the 470xx drivers and since there'll have to be patches for the 5xxxx drivers, I'd assume that those will be applied to the 470xx (and possibly 390xx) ones.
Alternatively the nvidia blob might not be able to maintain the current feature set w/ the altered linux API

Oh, didn't know they were still updating the drivers. Thanks for the info, and the help.
