[SOLVED] sddm exited with code 11

This morning I tried to update my system and a lot of plasma stuff was in the update. I didn't check it properly because I was running late for the office but I thought that it was a "/var too full" problem and didn't pay too much attention. My bad

Now, I tried to log in into my system and sddm does not show up. I get a black screen with only the cursor.
I was able to login in a different tty and looks like there is a problem with sddm-greeter (I can see core dump in the logs).

Sddm seems is active and running but I'm getting an error saying "Auth: sddm-helper exited with 11"

Restarting the service didn't work. My system is running an old Nvidia GTX960 with nvidia proprietary drivers.

Fresh reinstall of sddm and sddm-kcm didn't help.

Downgrading to previous versions of those packages didn't work neither.

How can I recover my system?

Try to downgrade the nvidia driver (use nvidia-dkms and also downgrade nvidia-utils)

Sorry for the late reply.

Tried downgrading nvidia and nvidia-utils to 575.76, as suggested in the thread you linked without success.
With those drivers, I don't even get into the blank screen with the cursor, although I can swith to a different tty.

I opened a github issue for the sddm package and someone suggested to submit a bug

The nvidia module isn't loaded at all.
If you didn't replace nvidia w/ nvidia-dkms, you'll also have to downgrade the kernel to match the one the nvidia module was compiled for (you'll have some /usr/lib/modules/6.0.x-arch1-y/extramodules/nvidia-drm.ko.xz and would need the 6.0.x-arch1-y kernel)
