I recently got another monitor, the exact same one as my current monitor, an ASUS VG289Q.
This setup worked fine on my desktop running Arch through a Thunderbolt dock (Anker PowerExpand 5-in-1 Thunderbolt 4 Mini Dock). Both ran at 60hz.
I ended up returning the new monitor, and got the Asus VG28UQL1A instead, almost the exact same monitor but it can go up to 144hz. Now I know Thunderbolt 4 has limitations on the display resolution + refresh rate it can output (1 4K@120hz or 2 4K@60hz) , I don't mind running both displays at 60hz.. but I can't seem to get the setting to stick.
When I restart, the VG28UQL1A is set at 60hz, but then the VG289Q is stuck at 30hz. There is no setting to raise the hz on the VG289Q, while the VG28UQL1A can go up to 144hz.
If I unplug the VG28UQL1A, and restart the machine with only the VG289Q connected, it can output at 60hz. Now when I plug int the VG28UQL1A, it has options all the way till 144hz. I set both to 60hz and everything's great.
If I reboot the machine, I'm back to having on display at 60hz, and the other stuck at 30...
No issues with cables, if I connect my work laptop running Windows to the thunderbolt dock, both displays can run at 60hz.
Is there a way to manually set the hz so it doesn't change after a reboot?
Running Gnome 42.4 Wayland, AMD 6700XT GPU.
