For the past few months I have been experiencing a network connection (4 meg broad band) that is slow in connecting eg. takes ages to connect to POP3 to download mail and also when going to web pages. However, tonight the box was in WinXP (my daughter had been using it) and I couldn't be bothered to reboot just to look at my email. Webmail was instant and so was visiting this site and a few others. I am now beginning to think that my Arch installation has a bit of a problem
The only time I use Windows at home is when I use my work laptop on a wireless connection, and I do not have a problem there either. Where should I start looking to solve this one?

You might try this link:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/IPv … the_Module
Though, it could be other issues.
One way to test to see if this is your problem: If you use any of the Mozilla browsers (Firefox, Seamonkey, etc.) you can type "about:config" (without the quotes) in the address bar. Look for the line "network.dns.disableIPv6" and change it to "true". Then see if your web pages load any faster. If so, the above link will probably take care of your problem.
Hi. I'm a sig. What are you?

vredfreak, you star
that did the job. I cannot believe I have been suffering such a crappy response for the past few months
All this happened around the time my router was playing up and I had to get a replacement. I then thought maybe the ISP was at fault. It was only when using the other OS that it really clicked how crap my connection was.
