[SOLVED] Microphone problems

Hello everyone. I can't setup my default micro on acer swift 5. When I speak, nobody can hear me
I tried different options but I didn't help

arecord -vv -f dat /dev/null

Shows me some noise and it doesn't depend on environment

arecord -l

Re: [SOLVED] Microphone problems

Have you tried unmuting in alsamixer as suggested in https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Advanc … microphone? There is also a link to troubleshooting tips if that doesn't work.

Did you already notice there's no Microphone in your source devices?

Re: [SOLVED] Microphone problems

I made some sound check from Archwiki and captured the white noise, so I decided that there are problems only in configuration

pacmd list-cards
arecord -L
sudo dmesg | grep -E 'snd|sof'

I'd not expect a tigerlake system to use the snd-hda-intel driver by default

Did you do snd-hda-intel.dmic_detect=0 or the equivalent snd-intel-dspcfg.dsp_driver=1 in any config files?

Re: [SOLVED] Microphone problems

If you can get a mic source from this you'd have to change the pulse profile with

pacmd set-card-profile alsa_card.pci-0000_00_1f. output:analog-stereo+input:analog-stereo

and then test your pulse microphone.

I am generally less than sure whether the mic will work at all without SOF. So if this didn't help and you can't record anything you should remove your swift3.conf and install sof-firmware instead and reboot.

I installed it and in input devices section of pavucontrol I see that micro reacts on my voice but people still can't hear me

I can see it under
Tiger Lake-LP Smart Sound Technology Audio Controller Digital Microphone in pavucontrol

Re: [SOLVED] Microphone problems

Can you record the mic directly? I.e.

parecord -d$insertmicsourcehere$ file.wav

where mic source is the name you get of your mic from

pacmd list-sources

? During "people can't hear me"/an active call what's your output for

pacmd list-sources
pacmd list-source-outputs

I typed

	name: <alsa_input.pci-0000_00_1f.3-platform-skl_hda_dsp_generic.HiFi__hw_sofhdadsp_6__source>

After that I randomly choose some device but I didn't hear anything back

arecord -d alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1f.3-platform-skl_hda_dsp_generic.HiFi__hw_sofhdadsp_4__sink.monitor file.wav
[~]$ aplay file.wav
Playing WAVE 'file.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 44100 Hz, Stereo

Re: [SOLVED] Microphone problems

you should use parecord for recording (arecord uses the ALSA API and doesn't know about pulse sinks, which is what most "normal" tools will be using) instead of arecord and your valid devices for what you are looing for are alsa_input.pci-0000_00_1f.3-platform-skl_hda_dsp_generic.HiFi__hw_sofhdadsp__source or alsa_input.pci-0000_00_1f.3-platform-skl_hda_dsp_generic.HiFi__hw_sofhdadsp_6__source since those two correspond to an actual mic

Re: [SOLVED] Microphone problems

Thank you, V1del. It is a big achieve for me. I could hear my voice for the first time on this laptop. I still don't understand how you realized that I should choice this one: alsa_input.pci-0000_00_1f.3-platform-skl_hda_dsp_generic.HiFi__hw_sofhdadsp_6__source

Re: [SOLVED] Microphone problems

Any pulse source ending in .monitor is a virtual loopback for recording from an output (think screen recording and being able to hear desktop audio or so) so you only have two logically possible microphones. Since you now know which is which you can do

pacmd set-default-source alsa_input.pci-0000_00_1f.3-platform-skl_hda_dsp_generic.HiFi__hw_sofhdadsp_6__source

so this will be remembered for all future sound recording applications. If you now open an application and it doesn't record, double check in e.g. pavucontrol or so that the applications are recording from the correct mic source.

Please mark as [SOLVED] by editing the title in your first post.

One last question. Should I add this in some config?

Re: [SOLVED] Microphone problems

no running it once should remember it in the future.
