After doing a system update and rebooting I can get through grub but when booting into a gnome it gets stuck on a black screen with an underscore and switching to a tty window does not work, I uninstalled gnome chrooting from the setup usb and setup kde and can boot into that fine. I tried reinstalling gnome and gdm from scratch with the same result. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi, I have the same issue. My solution was to replace gdm with lightdm, but I still can't use gnome with Wayland. I've added i915 to the module section in mkinitcpio.conf (including `mkinitcpio -P`) and downgraded gdm, libgdm, xorg-xwayland and qt5-wayland to the versions before. I've also removed nvidia, but no difference.
For a single time it worked to start gdm with `systemctl start gdm`, but I don't know why.

Hi, I have solved it for me. I found another thread and a bug ticket.
I have removed gstreamer-vaapi. Maybe installing intel-media-driver instead should also work.
