Steam Crashes Sometimes

Sometimes, Steams just decides to crash on it's own and I don't know why. It is quite annoying when it crashes while I play games because it causes my game to stop as well.

This is what I can find from journalctl -b

Re: Steam Crashes Sometimes

These seem relevant:

GLib-GObject-WARNING **: g_object_notify: object class `NMAccessPoint' has no property named `\xd0\u0018\xb2\xcf'

Looking this up lead me here: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam- … ssues/6219 - same error

And according to the stack the segmentation fault happens in some libnm instruction (networkmanager)

segfault at 18 ip 00000000e21601d3 sp 00000000ffc5f530 error 4 in libnm.so.0.1.0[e211d000+db000]

Either way it seems related to networking. The random nature of the occurrence will make it hard to isolate - the answer is somewhere in that coredump I imagine but you'd need symbols to debug it properly. If this persists, try using the snapstore version of steam (which I hear comes with some issues of its own)

Re: Steam Crashes Sometimes

If you want to get rid of the Steam runtime, where the error is occurring, install the "steam-native-runtime" meta-package with pacman and then launch "steam-native" to use that.  You will then be using the system version of the library instead of Steam's version.  I always use the native runtime and it works fine.

Edit: "get rid of" means not use it, the files will still be there if you launch regular Steam.

It could make sense that it is networking. So far, it only seems to happen when I play games that connects to the internet. Could just be a coincidence too, but maybe not. I am using NetworkManager. I'll try the steam native runtime version first, to see if it fixes anything.

I'll try out the  steam-native-runtime package and see how well it works. If it works for a couple to few days, I'll mark post as solved smile
