[SOLVED] Experience of mixing KDE with GNOME/Xfce in 2022 ?

Based on my experience about 10 years ago?  Parallel installation of KDE and GNOME/Xfce will cause a lot of little problems, because  at that time some X settings and some weird things shared between those two. A lot of tweaks was needed.

What's the situation of this in 2022? Does anyone install KDE and GNOME in parallel?

I wish to test a GUI program to ensure same behavior on both environments but i am too lazy to setup an vm. (There are a few bugs that seems to behave differently on GNOME and KDE).

I don't have Gnome installed right now, but as of a couple months ago I had them both installed and did not have any major issues.
My only comment would be about having them both installed when you are doing testing.  Something optional for one and required for the other will be installed -- that might mask a bug if that something is required by your code.
I'd spin up that VM.  Come on, if you have Gnome, it is trivial to spin up a VM using Boxes.  Bare QEMU is not that onerous either.

Re: [SOLVED] Experience of mixing KDE with GNOME/Xfce in 2022 ?

My experience installing Gnome alongside Plasma: took me way too much time to figure out why dark theme isn't working in Gnome. Turned put that I lacked xdg-desktop-portal-gnome. Seems that pacman skipped it while installing gnome group cause there was already xdg-desktop-portal-kde there. Other than that, I had no major or significant issues (other than Gnome being Gnome and will forever be [insert family friendly substitute word here] and I always end up deleting it soon after)

But, yeah, as ewaller said, VM is the way to go. It's simple and easy and provides more than enough for testing with zero consequences.

Thanks for your responses. I just tried parallel installation of Xfce and KDE, and thank god they won't break each other like before.
