[SOLVED] WiFi 6E Network not detected, 5GHz works well, Intel AX210NGW

Good day everyone!

I just got a TP link router with WiFi 6E support: TP-Link AXE5400 Tri-Band WiFi 6E Router (Archer AXE75), it is supposed that my WiFi card supports it also, but cannot see the 6GHz network, only the 5GHz, and 2.4GHz ones. I can connect to WiFi on the 5GHz band, and works normally, but the 6GHz SSID is not shown.

Hardware info:

lspci -k
        Network controller: Intel Corporation Wi-Fi 6 AX210/AX211/AX411 160MHz (rev 1a)
        Subsystem: Intel Corporation Wi-Fi 6 AX210 160MHz
        Kernel driver in use: iwlwifi
        Kernel modules: iwlwifi

I have looked around but the only relevant information I have found is related to download the latest driver and place it in

/lib/firmware

I have downloaded it from here: Linux Intel driver

However, after extracting the package, putting the iwlwifi-ty-a0-gf-a0-59.ucode file in /lib/firmware and rebooting, I still cannot see the 6GHz network.

My Kernel info:

uname -a
        Linux gtronick 6.0.10-arch2-1 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Sat, 26 Nov 2022 16:51:18 +0000 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I can also see this from the kernel log:

Thanks in advance, Any help is appreciated!

Re: [SOLVED] WiFi 6E Network not detected, 5GHz works well, Intel AX210NGW

I suspect this is a regulatory problem. I don't know what software you are using to scan but the AX210 is self-managed meaning it decides when to allow 6GHz. This is somewhat because of the 6E spec, but other cards don't make things as difficult as the AX210.

What you need to do (if the regdom is the issue) is scan and hope that you have other networks around you which set the country code in beacons (maybe the TP-Link router itself does this for its 2.4/5ghz BSS's). This initial scan will hopefully detect enough beacons for the Intel firmware to set the country. After this, assuming your country allows 6GHz, you should be able to scan on the 6Ghz spectrum ("iw list" should show unrestricted 6Ghz channels if you want to verify). And do note this all has to be done again if the regdom changes back to world roaming, or you reboot.... Quite annoying.

If you use IWD we have worked around this problem as best we can by detecting if the card supports 6Ghz and issuing a full scan to better the chances of seeing beacons which allow the country to be set. Then, if the country is set, we scan again on 6GHz and present all the scan results at once. Its not perfect but as far as the AX210 is concerned its the only option.

Re: [SOLVED] WiFi 6E Network not detected, 5GHz works well, Intel AX210NGW

Hi, thanks for the response. What is "regdom" and what are you referring to  with "beacons"?
Reading about the 6GHz in my country, I seems that it is in process of being allowed, so it seems a regulatory issue as you mentioned, at least in theory, however I can see the 6GHz network created in the router settings with the following setup:

Mode: 802.11ax only
Channel width: 20/40/80/160MHz
PSC (Preferred Scanning Channel): Active
Channel: Auto

Running iw list shows that the 6Hz band is disabled, so maybe it confirms the regulatory theory:

Re: [SOLVED] WiFi 6E Network not detected, 5GHz works well, Intel AX210NGW

regdom is regulatory domain, i.e. the country. And beacons are what your router sends out telling clients about it, SSID, security, etc.

So if your country disallows 6GHz you're basically stuck for now if using the AX210. I think Intel took a conservative stance on the regulatory rules since it really boils down to legal requirements. If the card cannot determine the country or its disallowed in that country it disables 6GHz.

You can keep checking the wireless-regdb git repo for updates, and if your country is added you can just update your local regulatory.db file:

Re: [SOLVED] WiFi 6E Network not detected, 5GHz works well, Intel AX210NGW

Ohhhh I see I see, thank you so much for the explanation. Sure, checking in the link, I cannot see my country, so I will wait until my card is "Unlocked". Thanks!
