[SOLVED] XFCE4 desktop unusable after recent kernel update

Although this forum seems to be the most appropriate, if my issue is being discussed somewhere else, please let me  know. If I'm simply mistaken about what components are involved, also let me know.

I update often,  but it appears that the upgrade to 6.0.10 borked my window system (XFCE4). It is reactive at most 50% of the time, i.e. my window system freezes. At least mouse movement is recorded, so when the system returns, the mouse goes to where it would have been had my system been reactive. GNOME behaves the same way, so perhaps the issue is not an X11/XFCE4/GNOME/GTK issue, but is a kernel issue. Everything goes back to normal if I boot with linux-5.15.80-1-lts.

I'm uncertain how to proceed. I can use linux-lts with no loss of functionality, but using the default Arch Linux kernel is a non-starter.

Is anyone else facing the same issue?

Re: [SOLVED] XFCE4 desktop unusable after recent kernel update

Please use code tags, https://bbs.archlinux.org/help.php#bbcode
Also post your xorg log, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#General and try to disable https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Intel_ … nable_fbc) and https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Intel_ … flickering (psr)

If you've installed xf86-video-intel, get rid of that.

Edit: though if I interpret this line correctly, you don't

Re: [SOLVED] XFCE4 desktop unusable after recent kernel update

Thanks for replying so promptly

I didn't include code tags because they didn't seem to add any info.

I did have xf86-video-intel installed. No longer.

I added enable_fbc=1 to /etc/modprobed/i915.conf and I'll report back on the results with Xorg.0.log if appropriate.

Code tags don't "add any info" but they make the output easier to read and provide a scroll box for long output. Please edit your post to use them.

Re: [SOLVED] XFCE4 desktop unusable after recent kernel update

Adding enable_fbc=1 to /etc/modprobed/i915.conf has restored balance to the universe.

Is there a way to mark my issue as [SOLVED]?

I don't see any way of editing my original post.

Bottom right of your post. You can add the code tags and edit the subject.
