[solved] Not able to lock screen after update, kded5 not running

Hi there! I did not use my laptop for several months and today I updated all packages. After the update I faces some general issues with KDE, like I am not able to lock the screen.

I opened up the system settings and found the following error message under Startup and Shutdown -> Background Services

The background services manager (kded5) is currently not running. Make sure it is installed correctly.

When I run kded5 in terminal the error disappears but the problems stay. I furthermore noticed that all the autostart services are not running, but the problems stay, even when I start them all manually.

I also noticed that the section Power Management is greyed out and shows another error:

Power Management configuration module could not be loaded.
The Power Management Services appears not to be running.

The list of Background Services (above) does not contain any service named Power Management or similar.

The journald does not contain any error that looks related to me.

I reinstalled plasma-framework but that did not change anything.

Do you have any further idea? Would be cool. Thanks!

Wild guess: how do you login / start the session? startx? SDDM?

loginctl session-status

Re: [solved] Not able to lock screen after update, kded5 not running

Oooh, thanks for this hint. I use SDDM.
But I forgot to mention one special part of my setup: I use i3 on top of Plasma and I have two different i3 setups, an old one and the new one. And after the update I accidentally switched to the old one, which does not start all the KDE stuff. When I start the other one I see my i3 setup flashing up for some milliseconds and then Plasma overrules it. So it's a complete different problem.

So I mark this question as solved.

Sorry for the inconvenience. And thanks for the quick reply!
