Pacman question

I'm very sorry if this has been asked 1,000 times. I've done some searching and found nothing relevant.

I just came from Gentoo, and I'm love the way that I can select versions of programs using Portage. Normally, this isn't a problem, but in one case for me it is.  Gaim. I can't stand the beta version. What's the easiest way to keep the old actual released version and get rid of the beta?

Thanks in advance smile Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Re: Pacman question

find a package of the version you like from an arch server somewhere (or build your own), and install it with # pacman -U gaim-version.pkg.tar.gz. then add gaim to the exclusion list in /etc/pacman.conf so it won't update when you're upgrading with pacman, like this:

IgnorePkg  = package1 package2 gaim

etc.

just be careful of any dependencies that might prevent gaim from working if you don't have the old versions of those, too. wink

Thank you! I've added the line to my pacman.conf.  Sorry, I'm still very new to Arch, Just got it up a couple hours ago smile

Where do you recommend searching for this package? I'm looking for Gaim 1.5.0.  I've found the source tared and am very accustomed to compiling packages coming from Gentoo. However, does pacman have the ability to compile and include this in it's list of installed packages?

Thanks. I really appreciate the help smile

Re: Pacman question

All kinds of old packages, including gaim 1.5, here.

We also have gaim-svn in the [unstable] repo.
