Sound effects on D-Bus events

I'm looking for a way to make various noises (play wav's etc) when various system events happen.

I'm gonna write a script to watch system D-bus for things I'm interested in, but I thought I'd check to see if anyone knows of such a thing first.

I suspect some IDEs like gnome/kde may have this ability, but I use vanilla Xorg and AwesomeWM.
