nvidia-dkms

Inspired by seth...
What are the disadvantages / downsides of installing nvidia-dkms only, if I installed multiple Officially supported kernels? In my case: linux, linux-lts and linux-zen (and their respective headers).

I mean, One Package To Rule Them All, no?...

What do you mean installing nvidia-dkms only?  It sounds like using nvidia-dkms is the right choice for your system ... why would you expect there to be disadvantages?

The disadvantage is that you have to wait for the compilation for each kernel to finish and thus the pacman operation running a bit longer, that's it.

why would you expect there to be disadvantages?

Because (maybe my thoughts are totally wrong) from what I'm understanding in the WIKI:
-  install nvidia (linux) or nvidia-lts (linux-lts) accordingly
-  nvidia-dkms it's mentioned for Custom Kernels

And also:
-  isn't a hard work for maintainers keeping up with different dedicated packages? Wouldn't be easier to maintain nvidia-dkms only?

nvidia and nvidia-lts are built using nvidia-dkms [1][2] there is no additional work beyond having two additional packages in the rebuild list.

nvidia and nvidia-lts are built using nvidia-dkms [1][2] there is no additional work beyond having two additional packages in the rebuild list.
