XGL/Compiz/AIGLX/Beryl - i'm getting lost... [SOLVED]

i'm using 1.9629 nvidia drivers on my geforce 6600 (they work fine except a bug about refresh rate : drivers think it's 50 Hz whereas it's actually 75 Hz - still not the 85 Hz i expected...)

i'd like to try 3d eye-candy, but i don't know where to start, what to use, and how to configure this stuff. what's a good resource to easily install this kind of stuff ? i suspect the wiki to be kind of outdated (for instance danimoth's repo doesn't seem to exist any more) ; by browsing the forums i have the feeling some installation methods differ from wiki's ones, etc.

so, in short : what should i use and should i do ? (i'm using kde btw)

thanks in advance for anything relevant.

My repo is up, and package are weekly updated.

But I don't use xgl anymore, because I have a white screen when I start compiz.
Now I'm using nvidia beta and beryl.

oh sorry, i thought so but it only seems your repos are not web browsable. tht's all. my apologies, then.

is beryl any better than compiz ? can i use both xgl or aiglx with those windows managers or are there mandatory combinations to get a usable 3d desktop ?

Hello, from http://www.beryl-project.org/:
Beryl is a fork of Compiz

It's easy. You already have nvidia 9629 and xorg 7.1.1, so all you need is this:

* Enable unstable in your pacman.conf (see the Mirrors wiki page for up to date mirrors)
* Install beryl: pacman -Sy beryl-core-svn beryl-manager-svn beryl-plugins-svn beryl-settings-svn aquamarine-svn
* Start beryl-manager. You should get the beryl icon in your dock. Right-click it and select the "Use Texture-From-Pixmap" option. Select Beryl as a window manager and aquamarine as a window decorator in the same window.

That should be it,you can be happy with beryl now!

@brazzmonkey: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beryl#Beta_drivers
Here you see which options have to be enabled in xorg.conf.
