Hi together,
since a few day I have issues with the sound on my Laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad). I am using pipewire, pipewire-alsa, pipewire-pulse with wireplumber (and ofc alsa). After a reboot when I change the volume I can hear the sound KDE is making indicating the current volume. But as soon as I start for example firefox or VLC the audio is just gone. I can get it working by executing
systemctl --user restart pipewire
Sound is only working as long as no application is started. I checked in pavucontrol if everything is set up correctly. Furthermore alsamixer is detecting my soundcard and nothing is muted in the mixer. I reinstalled everything without success. In addition I tried pulseaudio and pipewire-media-session. Same result everytime.
What can I do to debug further? Does anybody have an idea what went wrong? (I am kind of a noob)

can you post journalctl -b logs here?
Offline
Known kernel regression, check a 6.0.10 or LTS 5.15.80 kernel, should be fixed in 6.1 when this rolls to stable.

I did a downgrad to 6.0.10 and 6.0.5 and had the same issue.
Offline
After the changing to 6.0.5 AND changing to pipewire-media-session the audio is working again, but just for a longer amount of time. It still stops after some time .
Edit: I thougt it was solved, but as mentioned issue occured again after some time.

When the situation happens, what's your output of
sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*
Offline
Here is the output of
sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*
Output:
BEN. PID ZUGR. BEFEHL
/dev/snd/controlC0: thomas 824 F.... pipewire
thomas 825 F.... pipewire-media-
/dev/snd/pcmC0D0p: thomas 824 F...m pipewire
/dev/snd/seq: thomas 824 F.... pipewire
I will try to downgrade pipewire as well.
Output with wireplumber
BEN. PID ZUGR. BEFEHL
/dev/snd/controlC0: thomas 821 F.... pipewire
thomas 823 F.... wireplumber
/dev/snd/seq: thomas 821 F.... pipewire
Edit: I tried it with Arch 6.1.1 just now, newest pipewire version. Issue is still present.

I have the impression that the issue is not connected with starting an application. Seems like after some time the audio just stops to work. Also I find that when I have pavucontrol open, the issue takes longer to appear.
Does something maybe go on mute in the background and he fails to get switched on again? Way to check?
Offline
Pavucontrol and the likes if it's a standard "mute" operation should show it. Any messages when it happens in dmesg/journal?

It seems to work when pavucontrol is open in the background.
