Nautilus stays default for most applications

Hello,

Today I installed Dolphin, the file manager.

It's most likely that while I've used the Gnome desktop, that Nautilus stays default for most applications.

xdg-mime query default inode/directory

Gives:

org.kde.dolphin.desktop

I placed this in my .xprofile file:

export GTK_USE_PORTAL=1

I've got the XDG portals installed:

xdg-desktop-portal-gtk 1.14.1-1
xdg-desktop-portal-kde 5.26.4-1

VLC and Audacious do use Dolphin for opening files. Evolution, Libre Office and Gedit for example keep using Nautilus.

Re: Nautilus stays default for most applications

Neither Dolphin nor Nautilus are used in any application for opening files. You are mistaking them with the KDE and GTK file pickers. Qt applications will use the KDE file picker (assuming you are on Plasma) and GTK applications will use the GTK one regardless of what your default file manager is.

Re: Nautilus stays default for most applications

I think you're right. And I must say it's a big disappointment. I thought I could get easy rid of Nautilus.
But getting fully rid of the Nautilus-like characteristics then probably means I have to at least install the plasma-desktop package. Sigh...

Thanks for the help!
