hello
a "standard" matter already cleared on others distro ( ubuntu...) : at each start up sound is muted and I have to go through the terminal and with the command " alsamixer" I select card sound ( HDA intel while std selected by default ) and I unmute speakers , then it works ; but it's not acceptable
I already cleared this matter by removing pulseaudio but it reject with mention " broke dependance of .....)
I try also without result : command "alsactl store" - after unmute in alsamixer - and "alsactl restore" in application automatic start .
Note : I use LXDE desk on Arch 2020
Any idea to clear that ?

Do you have a hibernating Windows install? generally if pulseaudio is there you should be setting volumes there (with e.g. pavucontrol) and it will remember those. can you post
sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*
amixer -c0
pactl list cards
pactl list sinks
from this "muted at startup" state in [ code] [ /code] tags (remove the spaces in your post and put the output between the two tags)

coco45, please edit your post and use [ code ] tags (not quote tags) when posting output. This makes the output easier to read and provides a scroll box for long output.

note that in alsamixer I have to change sound card ( HDA intel) instead of default in order to unmute headphones ( and auto-mute is disabled , no change, master not muted)

Use pavucontrol or pactl(1) to set the default audio device permanently. I think it should save & restore correctly once that is done. Hopefully.

You need to unmute the headphone control to have output from the speakers, or does pulse not detect the headphone jack? Then it's likely pulse's profile logic triggers that. Does it get fixed if you do
pactl set-sink-port alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1b.0.analog-stereo analog-output-headphones
? If that does fix it you can force a specific port via e.g. appending
.nofail
set-sink-port alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1b.0.analog-stereo analog-output-headphones
to the end of your /etc/pulse/default.pa

reply to V1del
to get sound I have to unmute at each startup in alsamixer a column "named" headphone ( there are several column : master , headphone, headphone mic ,headphon boost....) as it's the only muted ; and then it works
This is done after selecting "sound card" HDA intel (and not default) as it appears as 1st picture a sheet " pulseaudio card" with only one column Master ( not muted )
Note : there is no file /etc/pulse/default.pa

That file can't not exist, it's part of the pulseaudio package and in general pretty integral to pulseaudio working as it should. An alternative would be to have a oneshot service running after pulseaudio that does the unmuting of the faulty mute state. Or testing whether switching to the pipewire stack would fix the issue by installing pipewire-{alsa,pulse} and wireplumber and answering yes to the replacement prompts (... and removing pulseaudio-alsa)

sorry for my reply regarding file default.pa , it exist ; I added last line but no effect
I can't remove pulseaudio or pulseaudio-alsa due to " broke dependences" !

You do need to remove manually, if you install the packages i mentioned you will get prompted for a logical replacement that covers the same usecases
Offline
I removed pulseaudio even if it's broke some dependencies ! no other way to get sound with this Arch !
Now I have to temove from desktop menu the pulse audio applications , not so easy it seems with Lxde.......I will open another topic if any
Thanks to all .

You don't have to remove anything, just install pipewire-pulse if you now run a plain ALSA setup you'll almost certainly run into other audio issues eventually.
