Firefox 2.0 & new Openoffice build

Hi everyone,

mozilla-firefox 2.0 is now just called 'firefox' and is available for Arch64 users at http://www.archlinux.org/~ganja_guru/fi … pkg.tar.gz This package will move to extra soon enough and you'll be able to pacman -S it then.

New build of OpenOffice 2.0.4 for x86_64 is here:

http://www.archlinux.org/~ganja_guru/op … pkg.tar.gz

It's now callled openoffice-build to indicate that its compiled from source. 'openoffice-build' replaces/provides 'openoffice-base'. We shall try to make this package official provided there are no showstopping bugs.

Re: Firefox 2.0 & new Openoffice build

Firefox is running so far, but OpenOffice still crashes when printing something... besides that it's running way faster than before...  big_smile

Re: Firefox 2.0 & new Openoffice build

Printing works fine for me, and I have'nt had OOo crash yet. Were u able to print with previous OOo? Are you able to print fine with any other word processor? Please post terminal output when it crashes so we can try and debug.

Re: Firefox 2.0 & new Openoffice build

Yes, I was able to print before. Here's the terminal output:

sh: crash_report: command not found

Haven't checked out other word processors yet....
But I think it also has something to do with the recent cups update.... No hint for it, but this would explain some misbehavior my printer has....

Re: Firefox 2.0 & new Openoffice build

I think it has to do with the recent cups update. I found out that cups isn't able to wake my printer up from energy saving mode. I can print when it's not in energy saving mode, but no longer once it enters it. So maybe this is also one reason why OpenOffice crashes. I found out that once I uninstalled my printer it won't be recognized by the system until I rebooted my system. After the reboot the printer will be reinstallable again.
BTW.: I also have problems with costum fonts, like I said in another topic in this section.

Re: Firefox 2.0 & new Openoffice build

Back2Cali & AndyRTR: I'm not too sure your printer issues are related. For me, I have a HP Photosmart which gets detected everytime without any hassle. I also don't think vanilla 2.6.18.1 is to blame for your issues cause ive checked and my printer is recognized in kerne26-mm and kernel26-suspend2. Something might have regressed in 2.6.18 and the best way to check this (like andy mentioned) is to try the 2.6.17 beyond kernel which is still in the repos.

Re: Firefox 2.0 & new Openoffice build

I'm still using the 2.6.17beyond kernel. I still think it might have to do something with the recent updates of cups, dbus and hal. But however, this is not the problem I have. My pinter works (except if it is in powersave mode) but openoffice crashes as soon as I want to print anything. And I also lost every font I installed on my system, but this ain't related to the openoffice problem, because also koffice don't display these fonts correctly. KFontview however displays these ttf files correct...

Re: Firefox 2.0 & new Openoffice build

OO seems quite fast. But it still looks like Win95 and does not use the kde-theme as 32-bit-version does.

It crashes if I want to print, too. (this only happens when using big documents with pictures)

Yup, anything with pictures seems to crash while printing. I'll look into it soon. For now I'll build with enable KDE and post a new package tomorrow

Re: Firefox 2.0 & new Openoffice build

Hi!

I was just asking myself how the current state of the OpenOffice built might be. Since I still can't print but really need to I start getting some problems. So how are things going on with this?

Thanks!

Re: Firefox 2.0 & new Openoffice build

I got OOo built without Java and with gnujava. But before we can release the wanted version with gnujava we will have to fix some java related dependency issues.

You can build the version without java yourself: http://pastebin.ca/246516

Re: Firefox 2.0 & new Openoffice build

I tried building it, but this is the only result I got:

...
checking which shell to use... tcsh
checking for tcsh... no
configure: error: tcsh not found in $PATH
./PKGBUILD: line 78: LinuxX86-64Env.Set.sh: No such file or directory
./PKGBUILD: line 81: ./bootstrap: No such file or directory
==> ERROR: Build Failed.  Aborting...

Anyway, I don't have that much time to mess around with it. Is there any hint how long you guys need to get OpenOffice back to a usable state?
I don't want to copy everything I need to an Windows PC to use it there, because it would take much time to do so and I don't have enough of it....  wink

Thanks!

Re: Firefox 2.0 & new Openoffice build

pacman -S tcsh ;-)

I could upload a package but you would have to resolve a lot of missing deps that are not yet in our repos. So it wouldn't make much sense.

Re: Firefox 2.0 & new Openoffice build

I've been using the Firefox 2.0-1 package mentioned at the top for a while. For me, it crashes when using the right-click context-menu entries "save image as.." or "save link as..". Maybe it fails to correctly call my DE's file manager? (GNOME/Nautilus)
Also, "Bon Echo" seems a bit out of date by now roll

For the openoffice-package.. please also add GTK2/Gnome bindings.. looks quite ugly here atm :?

Re: Firefox 2.0 & new Openoffice build

Don't use the firefox package above. Rhis was just an early relase, and you should pacman -S firefox for the package which is in the repo's. That said, this release behaves exactly the same for me as the one in the repo's.

Bon Echo is because we build firefox without branding. Look up bbs/ML for more on this.

Re: Firefox 2.0 & new Openoffice build

Problem persists with the package from pacman (crashes when using the right-click context-menu entries "save image as.." or "save link as..".)

file a bugreport. can yomebody test it for i686? sounds like a generic upstream bug.

Re: Firefox 2.0 & new Openoffice build

I've managed to locate the culprit:
the file firefox.desktop located in /home/myuser/Desktop that I had created seemed to be responsible for the crashes. Nearly every time I navigated to the Desktop with a Save-As window (within any application, as I found out later), which was the default download path for firefox, the app crashed.
Removed the firefox.desktop file and everything works fine since. Odd?
