xorg. Somethings Just not right...

Ok. So I spent about 2 hours trying to figure out why I couldn't "startx" after installing xorg and my ati drivers.  Now it seems I have a strange problem. I installed fluxbox (via pacman -Sy fluxbox fluxconf menumaker) and added "exec startfluxbox" to my ~/.xinitrc script. Fluxbox starts fine, but that about as far as it goes. I use the menu to open up gaim, which opens, only It looks quite weird. The title bar (that says Buddy List) is doubled (as in, there are 2 on top of each other), only the second one is only about a 1/4 the length (it just stops. This happens with every window I open. Thats not the only thing wrong though. At the bottom, where you can add and remove buddies etc, I just see a big Gaim icon with "Available" beside it. If I click it I can change my away status. However, it covers up everything else. What could be causing this?

No idea.

Suggest moving your existing xorg.conf somewhere, then creating a new one with xorgcfg -textmode and starting with vesa.
Assuming that works, change it to the driver for your specific card.

If not, presumably you are missing a required xorg module or your hardware is suspect.

Try installing gdm. If you can start gdm, everything else should run as well. gdm will refuse to load if you are missing any bits and pieces. It is not a solution, but it will show you the solution...
