[SOLVED] invisible font character 'E' on firefox

this is from pastebin raw page

from chatgpt

i think its only invisible when written in code block..
ive tried rebuilding the font cache using

fc-cache -fv

and deleting firefox cache but its still invisible
any ideas on how to fix this?

So, what monospace font do you configure in FF and what happens if you chose a different one?

changing it to other mono font fixed it for raw page
but still invisible in normal page

so why is the 'E' invisible when i let the page to choose their own font?
i dont like the look without the default page font

It will boil down to what font the page configures and the system selects in response.
Use the web inspector to figure what font is configured by the pages css.

installing missing fonts listed in the pages css fixed the issue
however on github pages the letter E is still invisible (though it is visible on websites like pastebin), even though i have all the fonts listed in the pages css installed

installed fonts according to the list

ttf-liberation 2.1.5-1

You don't need all the fonts in the css cascade, that's not the point.
github uses ui-monospace by default, which should™ resolve to the monospace font you configured in FF (that being what?)
What happens when you edit the CSS entry and head it w/ "monospace" and what's the output of "fc-match monospace"?

Edit: oh FF underlines the selected font.

E is visible when i edit the css and head it with monospace, i set my ff monospace font to Noto Sans Mono

The font in #3 and #5 isn't noto sans mono, though (nor "liberation mono")

Means it's unresolved and defaults to Sans (it's ok to have the same output, it's just a different query and one is irrelevant

For the original problem, try to move aside /home/user/.local/share/fonts/ and run fc-cache. The restart FF and check the impact.

Ok, let's go for the most direct contender and remove ttf-liberation, but also keep the "literation" powerline variant out of sight.

Though even then the questions would be
1. why/how liberation is broken
2. more importantly: why ui-monospace doesn't resolve Noto Sans Mono for you (your firefox)

Sanity check: FF is from the repos and not a flatschpak?

What does the web inspector now say about the font?
And if it's still "liberation mono", what's an updated output of

According to the upstream PR, 2048-em was affected too.
Either the bug was fixed and re-introduced ir a similar issue exists elsewhere.
Try removing the ttf-nerd-fonts-symbols-2048-em* packages first.
If that doesn't help, my next best guess would be the powerline symbols.

If this wasn't (likely) down to FFs internal fontconfig parser, we could use fc-match or pango-view to isolate the font

i followed this issue and turns out i still had the old version of "Symbols-1000-em Nerd Font Complete.ttf" installed (assuming it was before the fixed version)
so i removed it, reinstalled ttf-liberation, ran fc-cache -fv, and the E is now visible

so ig thats it, thanks alot to seth and loqs for helping me out!
