Ok, so Ive been using 7.2 for x86_64 for about 4 months, its great, except I dont have openoffice base working properly. I can make a database with it, but I can't add records or do anything with the database itself. The message I get is telling me to install the Java SDK.
I have installed the 'jre' and 'jdk' from pacman and it still does not work.
I can use openoffice base on other 64 distros, like fedora x86_64 and ubuntu amd64
am I missing something? I've searched the arch forum several times and can't find anything else about using openoffice base on x86_64.
Any help, or just point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.

Ganja_guru figured out that if you build OpenOffice against the Blackdown JRE, it will allow OpenOffice to find the "stock" Sun JRE. The OpenOffice build for 2.0.4 isn't complete yet for 64 bit Arch, but it does find the Sun JRE. In my experience, the previous builds do not.
You can grab the 2.0.4 build from here:
http://www.archlinux.org/~ganja_guru/op … pkg.tar.gz
The last time I checked printing is broken on this build. So my suggestion is to export anything that you want to print to PDF and print from something that reads PDF.

Thanks for the info, Ill try it out. Just to clarify, does 2.0.4-5 need to be built against the Blackdown JRE? or will it find the Sun JRE that I installed through pacman?

You don't need Blackdown to install the package, if that's what you mean. That build of OpenOffice will find the Sun JRE.

that build won't print properly and will crash if you try. a new build using gnu java is being worked on by andyRTR, so you might want to wait for that.
