Arch on Usenet

I just noticed that there is a new (new to me, I haven't noticed it before) Ubuntu newsgroup under the alt.os.linux hierarchy. Has anyone thought of creating an arch linux newsgroup?

Re: Arch on Usenet

The real question is: Has anyone thought of using an arch linux newsgroup?

Re: Arch on Usenet

What would be the whole point? It would just be one more thing that the Arch dev's would have to spend time maintaining.

Support in arch group is excellent. Why open another one. I agree, more work for developers and users who help all the time.

I have...but there isn't one smile

Isn't it just like a mailing list though? :S

Re: Arch on Usenet

Yes, although older than mailing lists, IIRC.
And there are mailinglist-to-news gateways, in case someone need/want to use a news reader instead of an email client to participate.

Re: Arch on Usenet

IMO mailing lists can be a real pain.

I love forums, and I really wish for example that the Wine project would use a forum instead of a mailing list.

Forums just seem to me a better way to handle many different topics, and act as a better repository of knowledge in the long run. I hate trying to follow a thread of mailing list replies to a topic. Plus, who wants more e-mail?? I really don't need anymore coming to me.

Sorry if I got carried away, kind of a pet peeve. Am I off base here?

edit: Err...oops, I guess my post is kind of moot since the original subject was about newsgroups, but mailing lists were mentioned, and my complaint still applies to newsgroups somewhat.
