Hi,
I know, Beryl is quite unstable, but seems it works for so many guys, why not for me?
I followed this instruction: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … hlight=xgl
I have a Radeon 9600 and get KDE to work with XGL actually, but when I try to configure Beryl, the manager is so damn slow. And also the speed in general is very slow and after a while it crashes completely.
I have a Centrino 1.5GHz. This is not enough for the cool effects??
Im using fglrx btw. This is important?
Sorry if I ask for stupid "unstable-support", but I really want to know if its a stability problem of the software or if I made a mistake in my configuration.
Thanks in advance...
EDIT: When I use XGL as a session on KDE-Startup, the screen is white only and my notebook crashes (mouse still works)

It's very usable on my P3 1.2ghz machine. i830 card.

Means its not a question of performance... Is there a log-file I could check? Does XGL/Beryl give output to messages.log?

I recommend you to use Compiz instead of Beryl. http://go-compiz.org

You could check Xorg.0.log, for one. There's also ~/.beryl.log and ~/.beryl-managerrc

I will just try to reinstall again with the use of the Beryl Wiki-entry. Maybe it works better.
But to be honest, Im a little annoyed ![]()

Beryl is in the unstable repo for a reason. If you don't find it to be stable, don't use it.

I see, but somehow I need to find out if its a stability problem or a mis-configuration. But seems I dont understand the compiz/XGL-howto.
I need to try to find out.

1. add new repository to your pacman.conf
[danimoth]
Server = http://jjdanimoth.altervista.org/arch/i686
2. install mesa-xgl-cvs package
3. add /opt/mesa-xgl-cvs/lib/ to /etc/ld.so.conf
4. rm /usr/lib/libGL.so*
Then start xgl session.

I will try these settings and give a report.
Thanks for the hints.

Ok, before I desperate:
I installed a complete new Arch System today.
I created a standard xorg.conf with hwd.
Which tutorial should I follow to get it running? The Wiki says my ATi Radeon 9600 should work.
I havent installed a ATi-driver yet. Neither the fglrx, nor the opensource driver.
Please help :-)
