hal doesn't detect data on dvd+rw discs

i'm using xfce-svn and pmount to automount discs in thunar which works pretty nice for dvd+r, -r and any type of cds (besides audio cds of course) but dvd+rw discs are detected as empty discs, so pmount doesn't automatically mount them. thunar doesn't even show them. i checked with hal-device-manager and lshal and they are really recognized as empty.
however, they are not of course, else this whole problem would be me putting empty discs into the drive expecting something that is not going to happen wink

i can mount the discs manually using mount or pmount, but they are just not detected correctly by hal.
adding the user to the storage group didn't change anything.
the drive is a plextor 716a and it definately worked before.
it should not be the cause of any subversion version of thunar or any other part of xfce since hal already detects those discs wrong.

has anyone noticed something similar? i searched the forum but only found a topic where this problem existed with all types of discs or devices to be mounted automatically, but it's only those dvd+rw discs here...
