increase soundcard buffer

Ok, So when I am opening/closing windows/programs while playing music in amarok, the sound stops for a small second and then begins playing again once the program/window loads. I was thinking that maby it was my buffer for my sound card, and that I should increase it to hopefully get rid of this problem? Advice and help wanted!

Is amarok playing through arts, or some other sound daemon?
