I just had to reconfigure my system and replaced an old Nvida GPU with an Intel HD 4000. I read on https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Intel_graphics that the mesa-amber package gives better performance than plain mesa for Gen 7 hardware, which i believe the HD 4000 is, so i switched mesa and lib32-mesa out for the amber versions. Now when i start up Steam, though, i get an error message: "GLXchoosevisual failed". It seems to be lib32 specific, since glxgears and glxinfo work, but glxinfo32 reports:
name of display: :0.0
Error: couldn't find RGB GLX visual or fbconfig
Switching back to plain mesa and lib32-mesa, everything works again (glxinfo32, steam). Is there something i'm missing to get lib32-mesa-amber working?
Thanks!

I have the same issue. Have you ever managed to fix this?
Offline
This smells like an ABI mismatch - If you installed/switched to (lib32-)mesa-amber w/o a complete update, did you "pacman -Syu" and then (just to be sure) reboot?
Offline
Yes, I did pacman -Syu and did a reboot. Problem remains.
user@arch ~ $ pacman -Qs mesa
local/glu 9.0.2-3
local/lib32-glu 9.0.2-3
local/lib32-mesa-amber 21.3.9-4

local/lib32-mesa-utils 8.5.0-1
local/lib32-vulkan-intel 22.3.4-1
local/mesa-amber 21.3.9-4
local/mesa-demos 8.5.0-2
local/mesa-utils 8.5.0-2
local/vulkan-intel 22.3.4-1
(i removed the description)

And it is *only* lib32, not both? (Ie. glxinfo works, glxinfo32 doesn't)
Please post your xorg log, in doubt get rid of xf86-video-intel
Offline
Thanks for taking the time to look into this.
No xf86-video-intel installed
user@arch ~ $ pacman -Q xf86-video-intel
error: package 'xf86-video-intel' was not found
Yes, it's only lib32 causing issues. For example glxinfo:

similar results with glxgears vs glxgears32

I knew this was familiar: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 8#p2030768
__GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=amber glxinfo32 -B

Wow, thanks, that did the trick.
Thanks a lot for helping me solve the issue, Seth!

Thanks for the heads-up, pieterv, and thank you, seth, for the fix

I appealed to re-open the old bug (or, by inference, to fix this)
Setting __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME will break 64bit processes, so you might want to symlink the *_amber* libs to *_mesa* for the time being (don't forget to remove the symlinks once this is fixed, otherwise installing lib32-mesa will complain about existing files)
Please always remember to mark resolved threads by editing your initial posts subject - so others will know that there's no task left, but maybe a solution to find.
Thanks.
