Hi. My system is no longer able to run steam apps as launching steam causes X11 to crash. Let me introduce change log:
1. There was no issue when I was using mainstream nvidia driver.
2. After full system upgrade my X server refused to start. I read a bit about it and found out it is due to changes made to the kernel (or the nvidia driver itself which no longer supported my GPU). I decided to switch to open source drivers: xf86-video-nouveau, mesa, lib32-mesa.
3. I did not use Arch linux for a while and when booted again I found no steam client installed (perhaps I deleted it for some reason). When installing the client I was asked to choose vulkan driver and I do not know why but I chose AMD one. It is weird but I was able to launch Counter-Strike.
4. I did another system upgrade and steam stopped to work.
I really do not want to downgrade the kernel or install legacy nvidia driver nvidia-470xx-dkms (which I did with no luck). I am happy with open source driver because I do not need high fps at the moment. What should I do then? When installing steam I see no mentions of nouveau
1) amdvlk 2) nvidia-utils 3) vulkan-intel 4) vulkan-radeon 5) vulkan-swrast 6) vulkan-virtio
I thought if I chose vulkan-intel, the client would use my integrated GPU. It did not worked as well.

nouveau does not support vulkan nor really fast OpenGL that would be required for most games, the only way to get vulkan here is by installing nvidia-470xx. Even if you could magically use your integrated CPU, the logical timeframe from when that nvidia card was new and which kind of integrated GPUs you'd have you also wouldn't have vulkan support.
If you are dead set on not using the proprietary driver you can force-coerce things into "working" with the vulkan-swrast driver, but that is software level and not accelerated by HW and going to be SLOW.
Still steam the client should generally start, what's the current situation here? Post

I found out that X11 crashes because of window manager I wrote several years ago. I tested steam with i3 and it works though there is like ~80 fps drop for unknown reason since the last system upgrade. I checked both with vulkan-swrast and amdvlk (which I tested before) but I guess steam falls back to software rendering anyway.

Okay, I did another try to install nvidia-470 driver.
sudo pacman -R xf86-video-nouveau xf86-video-vesa
git clone https://aur.archlinux.org/nvidia-470xx-utils.git
makepkg
pacman -U *.zst
It looks like binaries are installed yet there was an error during the installation process:

Then I generated new xorg config
sudo nvidia-xconfig
No errors here but when I try to start X11, it fails with errors in journal:

It turned out I had to unload nouveau first. I thought it is done automatically when uninstalling the driver.
Create blacklist-nouveau.conf file
sudoedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-nouveau.conf
with the content
blacklist nouveau
options nouveau modeset=0
Regenerate initramfs and reboot
sudo mkinitcpio -p linux
