I'm running gnome 43.2 on Wayland. When I double click on start-tor-browser.desktop and click run:
Oops! something went wrong, there was a problem running this software: unable to locate the program
Video: https://i.imgur.com/gtnR1jp.mp4
And this is not a very useful error message so I ran it with xdg-open and it printed out: Adwaita-Message: AdwMessageDialog mapped without a transient parent. This is discouraged. opening tor browser
The app didn't open but the process didn't end in the terminal.
You might have noticed that start-tor-browser.desktop file has a text file icon in the file manager. When I try to make it executable in file properties the slider instantly returns to the off position. I also tried thunar file manager but the option "allow to run as executable" doesn't do anything either.
Running files that are not shortcuts but actual executables like "tor" results in a message: "Could not display xxx: there is no aplication installed for "executable" files". It gives an option to select aplication but it doesn't do anything and the file manager is frozen. Ok button doesn't do anything either and I have to close the program. Buttons are interactive on hover though.
Do I need some kind of external software to run this kind of files? I really tried to research this but no results. Plz help.

I'd suggest you post the .desktop file so other people can get a modest idea what you're talking about.
But from the error message I'd say it references an executable that doesn't exist on your system (or at least not in your $PATH)
