Re: SDDM crashes when i switch using optimus-manager

There  was a larger thread here that identified some wonkyness here with optimus-manager and SDDM, that could be fixed with switching to another display manager like lightdm or so.

HOWEVER! Your card is new enough that there's no point or need to optimus-manager and you can use the standard prime support instead. Remove your xorg.conf (remove that anyway, it's useless pointless cruft) remove optimus-manager, install nvidia-prime and read and use: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PRIME# … er_offload instead.

Re: SDDM crashes when i switch using optimus-manager

thanks for your time , yes i know by switching to another DM it could be fixed But im trying to keep my sddm
becues im used to it and something that makes me confuse is that when I remove Xorg.conf , sddm stops working
and when i use nvidia-prime on integrated , it gives me 70 fps on minecraft 1.18.1 altho it says on the F3 menu that its using my 3050

Re: SDDM crashes when i switch using optimus-manager

At some point somebody will have to explain minecraft to me… I mean, it's virtual lego and looks like software Quake from 1998, despite knocking out modern hardware. wtf.

Anyway, drop optimus-manager and check the outputs of

glxinfo -B
prime-run glxinfo -B
glxgears # notably the fps
prime-run glxgears # notably the fps

The framerate is likely just due to vsync.

Re: SDDM crashes when i switch using optimus-manager

Your output syncs at 144Hz, but prime doesn't sync.
W/ 70fps I assume some double-sync is going on.

- Do you have xf86-video-intel installed? (don't install it)
- Do you have vsync enabled in the game?
Try

__GL_SYNC_TO_VBLANK=0 prime-run virtuallego

Re: SDDM crashes when i switch using optimus-manager

❯ pacman -Qs xf86-video-intel

    X.org Intel i810/i830/i915/945G/G965+ video drivers

no vsync is disabled and sometimes it goes to 100 fps

/usr/bin/prime-run: line 2: virtualego: command not found

Re: SDDM crashes when i switch using optimus-manager

Please replace the oversized image with a link, the board has a 250²px² max rule, and explain what you intended to illustrate.
Also elaborate on the "why" part. If it's xf86-video-intel, see the blue note in https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Intel_ … stallation - the driver is in limbo.

Edit:
The persistence mode is off, that's nothing to phone home about.
Please post your Xorg log, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#General
