Laptop doesn't charge after dying during sleep?

I highly doubt this is an operating systems problem, but I thought I'd ask here since I am absolutely perplexed.

My laptop is a ~4-month-old Thinkpad X1 Extreme. I shut the lid to bring it to sleep when it had < 5 % of the battery left. Probably should've shut it down, but I was leaving class and was just in the habit of doing things this way.

I arrive home an hour later and open the lid to turn it on. It's dead, so I go to plug it in, and non of the charging indicators will illuminate. I look up guides for doing things like holding down the power button for 30 seconds and hitting the reset switch on the bottom of the device. Nothing works. There's no indication that the device is charging and it won't switch on. The next day I show up at my office. I have a spare charger that stays there and I test it on that one. Same issue: no indication of charging and it won't power on.

If the device dies during sleep (I have it suspended, not hibernating), can this somehow cause a problem like this? Obviously, this isn't good for data loss or integrity, but the thing should still charge, right? The thing is practically new and I've been careful with how I transport it, so It would be a shame if it already has a hardware problem like this. I'm working on having a repair service check out the laptop.

Thank you for your time.

Re: Laptop doesn't charge after dying during sleep?

Have you tried to remove the battery, get a cup of coffee, drink that and then re-plug the battery?

Li-ion batteries have active charging managers.
If the battery gets complely sucked out all energy, it can't charge itself anymore and you'll have to essentially bypass the manager and "shock" the battery into life. (Which is somewhat dangerous if you don't know what you're doing)
I'd expect it to cut itself from the active drain (the computer) before that happens, though, and only enter this state through self-discharge over time.

Re: Laptop doesn't charge after dying during sleep?

This isn't something I have tried yet. I am hesitant to do so since 1) I don't know what I am doing, and 2) I have a premium warranty (it was part of a black Friday deal I got at a heavy discount) and I am afraid opening it will void that.

Is all that I have to do is disconnect the battery, wait, and then plug it in? Or do I need to charge the battery through those pins somehow?

Thank you again for your help.

Re: Laptop doesn't charge after dying during sleep?

You'll have to open that particular device to remove the battery (I guess it's a plus that it's not also glued in…) what mmight indeed void your warranty, notably if you have to break any seals, but just unscrewing the case might be detectable.

Un- and replugging ad shockign the battery would be two different tests.
Un/plugging is no big deal (but for the warranty)

Shocking it can destroy the battery - or your hands.
It'll also require the specs for those pins and equipment to apply a controlled current.
So w/

I don't know what I am doing

you will simply not do that w/o in-person supervision.
