hello! i'm new to arch linux but i got some problems.
I wanted to add 1280x960 resolution for playing cs but turned out i have BadMatch error.
i used cvt for adding mode

Re: cant add custom resolution in xrandr

The driver rejects the mode, for nvidia, you can configure to not do that.
Otherwise you'll probably have to manipulate the edid.

Also, depending on the system the pclk might be too high and 75Hz generally not supported by the output.
Please post your Xorg log, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#General and also the output of

xrandr -v

Because this might ultimately be an xy-problem:

I wanted to add 1280x960 resolution for playing cs

Why? What's the problem w/ the existing modes?

Re: cant add custom resolution in xrandr

Hello, firsly i answer to 2nd question. My main problem is that i have 1920 x 1080 as active resolution when changing it in csgo. When i used windows this thing cause some blurry screen and input lag, so i want to make resolution that will count as active.
And btw my monitor is 75hz so that couldn't be a problem that output doesn't support it.
okay now my log files and xrandr -v:

xrandr -v

Re: cant add custom resolution in xrandr

xrandr -v

https://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/ … tions.html
See

Option "ModeValidation" "string"

"AllowNonEdidModes" will be relevant here.

Re: cant add custom resolution in xrandr

Remove the xorg.conf, you're not supposed to have a static server config and the ones generated by nvidia are full of cruft.

Th output is 16:9 but you're trying to add a 4:3 mode - there's no guarantee that it'll handle that nicely, in particualar not depending on what

When i used windows this thing cause some blurry screen

actually means.
Run nvidia-settings, enter the "X Server Display Configuration" tab and click "Advanced…"
You can now translate the output.

/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-nvidia.conf

Section "Device"
    Identifier "GeForce_GTX_950"
    Driver "nvidia"
    Option "metamodes" "HDMI-0: 1920x1080 +0+0 {viewportout=1280x960+320+60}"
EndSection

This will add a metamode where the output is 1920x1080 and you get a letterboxed 1280x960 inside.

Wrt forum etiquette, please don't bump, but edit your previous post if nobody has yet replied, thanks.

Re: cant add custom resolution in xrandr

I'm kinda busy to check rn but i explain what i mean when making 1280 x 960 res. LIke in windows you custom res utility to make true 1280 x 960 res. I cant really explain the difference but when i have my monitor setted on 1280 x 960 game feels much like better, so i want to do so on linux. I will edit this reply when check xorg conf you sended to me. Best wishes

Re: cant add custom resolution in xrandr

"AllowNonEdidModes,NoHorizSyncCheck,NoVertRefreshCheck" and try

Modeline "1280x960_75.00" 130.00 1280 1368 1504 1728 960 963 967 1005 +hsync +vsync

(all available 1280 modes have both polarities positive)

But: your output will likely scale and possibly stretch that, what'll make it blurry (and possibly distorted)

Re: cant add custom resolution in xrandr

i tried to add modeline but xorg failed session when i did so.

The log shows that 1280x960_75.00 is rejected, but no further failure.
How exactly did you "try" to add that mode?

Try adding the modeline in #10 via xrandr first.
