Resizing root partition

We've seen what can happen when you try to resize root partitions... how do I do it successfully?

There is a lot of information out there on the subject, find out what works best for you, if you run into problems, provide details here with specific question(s). You may want to backup of your existing root partition before resizing.

Also your biggest problem will likely not be to resize the root partition, but to shrink and mode whatever is right of it.
It's possibly to do this manually, but given your questions itt, use gparted.
That's NOT an excuse to not backup your data beforehand.
