pendrive read-only

I'm having trouble with a pendrive that I succesfully burnt before:

# hdparm -r0 /dev/sdb

/dev/sdb:
 setting readonly to 0 (off)
 readonly      =  1 (on)

Consequently

# dd if=/tmp/tails-amd64-5.10.img of=/dev/sdb bs=16M oflag=direct status=progress
dd: failed to open '/dev/sdb': Read-only file system

What can I do to change this status?

Don't burn pendrives - NAND doesn't deal very well with heat.

Likely, yes

You'll might find comments about that in the journal and you can try on a different software and hardware stack.
But chances are it's EOL, sorry.
