[Solved] pacman - skip free space check

I want to install sage-mathematics (size ~2gb) for which there is not enough space in / . Since most of files that belongs to sage-mathematics are stored in /opt/sage, I tried make to a cross partition symlink hoping that now paman would report enough space. But still the installation fails. Perhaps because for pacman /opt/sage does not even exist otherwise there would be a conflict ?

So how can I install sage-mathematics package without freeing up enough space in / ?

Don't use cross partition symlinks.   Use a bind mount.

Re: [Solved] pacman - skip free space check

Thanks, that worked.

So to confirm, all I have to do is add the line below to /etc/fstab

/mnt/external_partition/sage/ /opt/sage/ none bind 0 0

But I dont mount /mnt/external_partition/ at boot time, will the mount fail ?

There seems to be still no option to do that, right?
I could very much use the option to skip these checks right now as I am fixing a severely broken btrfs chroot...

xerus, this thread is almost 10 years old.  I think Allan's advice is still sage.
Closing this old thread.  If you still have issues with your brfs, go ahead and start a thread in that vein.
