have been wrestling with this for a while. I have a radeon rx 6700xt, fantastic card...except when it comes to video editing.
I've tried:
opencl-amd from aur with and without amdgpu pro
rocm-opencl-runtime with and without amdgpu pro
I've tried setting the ROC_ENABLE_PRE_VEGA=1 variable with and without amdgpu
and none of it yield to get DRS to function, sometimes it loads a project sometimes it hangs on loading a project, some projects have black video clips.
does anyone have the "secret recipe" to get davinci resolve (studio) to work with amd gpu's?
I'm tempted to sell it (if anyone NOT video editing is interested. and get an nvidia.
any tips with the radeon are greatly appreciated.
at wits end.

EDIT: solved... swapped out to an nvidia card.

Do you know this?
https://github.com/Ashark/davinci-resolve-checker
it gives advice
./davinci-resolve-checker.py
Locale unavailable: de_DE, using en_US instead
Using locale en_US
DaVinci Resolve checker 3.0.0
Installed DaVinci Resolve package: davinci-resolve 18.1.3-2
lspci: Unable to load libkmod resources: error -2
Chassis type: desktop
Installed OpenCL drivers: opencl-mesa rocm-opencl-runtime
Presented GPUs:
Navi 10 [Radeon RX 5600 OEM/5600 XT / 5700/5700 XT] (kernel driver in use: amdgpu)
OpenGL vendor string: AMD
OpenGL renderer string: AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT (navi10, LLVM 15.0.7, DRM 3.49, 6.2.2-arch2-1)
You should uninstall opencl-mesa. Otherwise DR (v17.1.1) behaves wrong: image is corrupted. But if you uncheck gpu checkbox in settings and relaunch DR, then even entire desktop session becomes corrupted and you only can reboot your pc. This is observed at least on amd gpu.

thanx for replying. yup, did that, and it tells me I don't have opencl installed, even though it recognizes rocm-opencl-runtime. I can't find a support forum for davinci-resolve-checker to ask the question.
from everything I've been able to find and read, the radeon rx 6700xt is a card that should use rocm-opencl-runtime. and I've read posts and comments where people are running it with this setup, yet they don't remember how they did it.

Those are often in clinfo output, as far as I know it doesn't affect funtionailty of detected devices.
The problem with davinci resolve is that it requires OpenGL AND OpenCL drivers to work together in supported combinations .
(which combos are supported does tend to change between versions)
For nvidia proprietary drivers everything DVR needs is provided in one package, for opensource drivers it's more complicated.
The table on https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/DaVinc … stallation only contains verified data and the entry for rocm-opencl-runtime is for rocm 5.1.1 , DVR 17.4.6 and a radeon pro W6600 .
Are there any reports of people using an rx6700 successfully with DVR 18 on a linux flavor ?
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

@Lone_Wolf, thanx for the reply. in all my research this week that's what I found, it all depends on systems, and 2 people could have the same card and DVR will work on one but not the other. I have read some brief scribblings of people getting it to work with a rx6700, but they can't remember how, they're just like "I just kept installing the driver and it suddenly worked".
I ordered a nvidia 3060 12GB card last night, should be here tomorrow. tired of "trying" to see if it will work. if it weren't for the video editing, I'd keep the radeon.

interesting twist to this... it seems I can't open (or DRS crashes), but I can create new projects and work on them. So there appears to be a potential project structure difference.
is anyone else running an recent gen AMD GPU (5700, 6700, etc), rocm-opencl-runtime having any issues with previously saved projects vs new projects?

one more twist to this.
I can't export and then import a project, same problem of it crashing not long after it opens (with black video).
however...
there is a limited amount of time once I open to when it crashes that I can navigate the menu, and that's just enough time for me to export the timeline. I was able to successfully export the timeline. I then create a new project and import that timeline, and viola, everything is working. I have no idea why, BMD says "that makes no sense".
it seems there may be some corruption somewhere in davinci? I have no clue. just wanted to share in case someone else is having a similar issue.
more testing to go.
