[Solved]Audio and Video Streaming Stop Playing

Hi - my laptop develops an issue over time where audio and video streaming stops working.  If I leave my laptop running for a couple of days, and then try to stream a radio station or play a Youtube video they simply won't play.  Youtube loads the first frame or 2 and then just continues to spin.  Normally, I use Firefox and when this issues occurs, I will launch Chrome and the issue is present in Chrome too.  So, it's not the browser.

I've launched Firefox from the terminal and tried to play a Youtube, but no error messages are given.

I've tried streaming from the web using VLC, nothing.

I've restarted NetworkManager. No change.

systemctl restart NetworkManager.service

I've killed and restarted pulse audio just to be sure nothing there was causing the issue

$ pulseaudio -k
$ pulseaudio --start

I tried logging out and back in, did not help, still no streaming.
However, once I restart the laptop, streaming works fine again for a few days.

Any thoughts on what else I can check?

I should note, when I play an mp3 from my local drive, the file shows playing in Pragha, but no sound.

Another clue... When the laptop is in this condition, and the Youtube videos won't play, they will start playing if I mute the audio on the video.  If I re-activate audio a few seconds later, the video stops playing.  Also, I record some radio shows off the web with streamripper.  When the laptop is in this condition, the recording has no audio.

So, it seems to be related to the audio not the browser or audio players: 

• MP3 will not play on any audio player

• Youtube videos won't play with audio on, but will play when audio muted

• Streamripper records, but no audio

Thoughts anyone???

You almost certainly have conflicting sound daemons running, check

sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*

if that shows wireplumber and pulseaudio you need to make a decision how you want your audio handled. If you want to keep using pulseaudio replace wireplumber with pipewire-media-session or if you want to switch to pipewire entirely replace pulseaudio with pipewire-pulse and keep wireplumber.

It did indeed show both wireplumber and pulseaudio.  I installed pipewire-media-session-git as pipewire-media-session showed as depreciated. 

I'll leave this thread open for a few weeks to ensure my issue is solved.
