Re: Newbie stuck : installed graphics leads to freeze's

The log indicates mesa 22.3.6 is in use , repo mesa is now at 23.0.0  and mesa-git has used a 23.1 version number for a few weeks already.
It seems it's time to investigate which mesa version from where you are using .

Post output of

$ pacman -Ss mesa
$ pacman -Qs mesa

Hi Lone_Wolf
Firstly apologies for mangling your nick SORRY.

You asked for the output of commands they can be found at

https://stevedoeslinux.com/mesa

That last logout crash was different I did not hit the buffer and reboot.
It knocked me back to login. I pressed ctrl-alt-del on the keyboard so it may have been that.

Edit: looking at the prompt those file names may be wrong but I am sure you can work it out, Sorry.

Re: Newbie stuck : installed graphics leads to freeze's

Might be a good idea to do a quick
pacman -Syu base base-devel plasma-desktop mesa linux

To ensure that he's at least using proper base before trying to figure the rest out.

Re: Newbie stuck : installed graphics leads to freeze's

I'd get rid of the frankenstein repos and get to a clean base. I'm currently debating whether to close this thread outright since I'm assuming this was never an Arch install in the first place (... or at least hast been bastardized enough by now to be logically something completely different...) I'd test whether any of this is reproducible on a clean Arch install, without the Arcolinux/xerolinux/nemesis/chaotic BS on top.

Re: Newbie stuck : installed graphics leads to freeze's

Those outputs are close to what they should be, the archlinux mirrors you use are uptodate .

V1del, I do believe it technically was and still is  an archlinux install.

Data-007, a clean install using the installation guide would give you a chance to avoid several pitfalls, increase your understading of the system and make troubleshooting easier because the foundation will be solid .

Hi
Let me clear this up now it is and always has been an Arch install.

If I redid this from the installer(arch) I would do it the same way as before, A time machine has not yet been invented.
Back to some of the earlier posts about the 'Arch linux Tweak Tool'>ATT
In it there that a few things have been setup.

O The additional repos added.
O ZSH Setup.
O Other small bits and species (alsis's and the like).

I have also customized the prompt to with powerlevel 10kAll the above I done ADDED.

I have a choice to install ATT again and disable the repos an uninstall it again.
A lot of what the ATT does is work with text files. So where is the repo text file so I can do it the old-fashioned way?

Anything that left else left I cant remember.

@LoneWolf and all other I await your reply's.

You might have installed archlinux, but are currently augmenting it w/ 3rd party repos and at least 7 of them are specifically derivative distros.
The only thing arguebly wrong about "Frankentein" is that it's Frankensteins Monster.

The next problem of this thread is

The subject of the thread is a work in progress.

I for one have lost track what this currently is about.
GCVM_L2_PROTECTION_FAULT_STATUS, streamdeck or attempts at updating mesa (within your frankensteinian repo setup)?

My very best, generic, advice is to re-establish a functional base and expand from there.
GCVM_L2_PROTECTION_FAULT_STATUS is a problem w/ the kernel module and recently came up in https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=283263 & https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=282273 (solved w/ an update) and https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=284076 (possibly solved w/ an udpate as well)

Frankly, I am just as tired of this as everyone else all I want is a working system, where I get to do my work and play games as well.
I think its about all the things you mention, I really haven't a clue how or what is causing this.

At the risk, I repeat how do I remove these repo's that some have nicknamed Frankenstein? Now hashed out.

"GCVM_L2_PROTECTION_FAULT_STATUS, streamdeck or attempts at updating mesa"
I would say it's a dog's dinner but would say it's all these things you are correct.

I have reviewed the links you included do you really think that downgrading the Linux so far will help?

That's not actionable.
There's no GCVM_L2_PROTECTION_FAULT_STATUS in the recent logs, nor other amdgpu kernel module related error signs.

You can't just post logs and yell "fix my stuff".

seth wrote:

What's wrong w/ the boot that log belonged to?
Is it related to the streamdeck, does a game crash or what else?

but those don't fit the subject of the thread.

streamdeck aborts in

so some off-brand, local Qt6 installation that stems god knows where and is esp. not https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/pyside6/

Norpass crashes because

I agree with Seth. Put this Frankenstein's monster out of its misery and do a fresh install from scratch. Also , do it manually, and not through archinstall so you could at least learn the basics.
