emacs: writing to child signal FD: Bad file descriptor

Hi!

I'm using emacs(-nox) org-mode for note-keeping. There is a handy "org-open-at-point" command (C-c C-o), which opens a link under the cursor in a browser.
However, every time I invoke it, I get

emacs: writing to child signal FD: Bad file descriptor

error message printed at the cursor position, which messes up the layout completely.

I've tried removing ~/.emacs and ~/.emacs.d to get a clean configuration, but the issue persists. All emacs versions (emacs, emacs-nox, emacs-nativecomp) suffer from this issue, though in GUI mode the error is printed in the terminal in the background and doesn't mess up the layout.

Searching for the error text doesn't indicate that the issue is widespread, so I'm assuming there is something wrong with my setup. The issue is extremely annoying since I can't have links in my notes

Emacs version: emacs-nox 28.2-2 (previous versions are affected as well)
