[solved] KDE only flushes keyboard buffer after mouse movement

Forgive the quirky title, but I don't know how else to explain it. Since a system update last week, text will only appear on screen after I also move the mouse. So I can type something and nothing will appear until I move the mouse. This also applies to some shortcuts, e.g. ctrl + L in Chrome will only work after mouse movement, but alt + tab will work immediately.

This seems to be related to KDE as switching to a text-based tty does not have this problem.

Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.104.0
Qt Version: 5.15.8
Kernel Version: 6.2.8-arch1-1 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 16 × Intel® Core™ i9-10885H CPU @ 2.40GHz
Memory: 62.4 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® UHD Graphics (and an Nvidia card)
Manufacturer: LENOVO
Product Name: 20TKCTO1WW
System Version: ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 3

Re: [solved] KDE only flushes keyboard buffer after mouse movement

Suspend the compositor (SHIFT+Alt+F12) - still a problem?
Also please post your Xorg log, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#General

Re: [solved] KDE only flushes keyboard buffer after mouse movement

This is a bit silly, because I should have checked this before: It only applies to my USB keyboard and bluetooth mouse. The laptop's keyboard does not have this problem. So maybe something with udev?

Disabling the compositor had no effect. I also did a full system update today  and the output of yay -Suyy only appeared in Konsole in the same way: only after moving the mouse. That seems to be related... (Also the update did not fix it )

Re: [solved] KDE only flushes keyboard buffer after mouse movement

Remove xf86-video-intel but that doesn't really match with the input device specific occurrence. While it's something you should do anyway if it didn't help try disabling usb autosuspend https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Power_ … utosuspend (try usbcore.autosuspend=-1 for the kernel parameters for a wider sweeping test, you'll probably want to create specific udev rules for the culprit devices in case)

Removing xf86-video-intel (which was your original post wink ) helped immediately! Thank you very much! And thanks for the updated suggestion, I will use that if necessary.

Re: [solved] KDE only flushes keyboard buffer after mouse movement

Well I only saw that at first, slammed out the default response to that (it's mentioned in a note on the wiki, the only gpus xf86-video-intel really makes sense on anymore are sandybridge  and earlier from the 2010s, it has not seen much development for newer GPUs since) and then saw you mention this being potentially tied to the input device, which wouldn't make sense.
