Hi all,
I installed wine last night and after it finished, i shutdown and passed out. This morning upon startup, the background comes up, and is promptly replaced by black. I have the status bar and can open anything, just no background. I'm using hyprland.
Thanks.

Why do you think that installing wine has any relation to your desktop background? By which means are you setting your desktop background?

Because everything was fine prior. So clearly something with the wine install had something to do with it.

How did you install Arch?

By that logic you should be able to remove wine and have a desktop again is that the case? What can sometimes happen here is that wine gets registered as the default handler for certain mimetypes, that should not in any way shape or form have an effect on the tools used by hyprland to set the wallpaper since that will generally be a specific program rather than a mime type lookup.
In any case, upon login, what's your output for
sudo journalctl -b
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/List_o … n_services
... And have you tried setting your background again?

running `swww init` returns:
WARNING: socket file /run/user/1000/swww.socket was not deleted when the previous daemon exited
Error: "Failed to receive answer: io error: Connection reset by peer (os error 104)"
I am unsure what this means... ill be googling.

In case anyone comes by with a similar issue... The issue was swww was crashing from corrupt files in /.cache/swww . Deleting the swww directory in .cache and then running "swww kill" followed by "swww init" fixed the issue for me.

Great, please mark as [SOLVED] by editing the title in your first post and potentially adjust it so that the actual culprit/issue is mentioned.

I will mark as solved. However this is just a temporary work around in my tests.

Then find/use a better wallpaper tool that doesn't break randomly.
