For some reason, every time I update "linux", I lose the ability to log in via GDM on the next reboot.
My cursor is stuck in the bottom right corner and my mouse is unresponsive.
If I reboot into an arch rescue USB, arch-chroot, and reinstall "linux" everything start working again.
I'm at a loss. Where should I start looking?
I've updated my BIOS, if that matters, and it makes no difference.

Do you by any chance use a KVM switch?
It is possible that neither the keyboard nor the mouse drivers are properly built into the initramfs if they are disconnected at the time of creation due to the autodetect hook.

No KVM switch. They're plugged directly into mobo USB.
Next time a linux update is available I'll update verbose and post the logs of the initial update and the rescue usb install.

Does this also happen if you change GDM to an alternative?

This was likely different from https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=284279 though as
If I reboot into an arch rescue USB, arch-chroot, and reinstall "linux" everything start working again.
heavily suggest some issue w/ the update process.
Either the initramfs and a race condition or the the /boot partition isn't mounted during regular updates, or it is, but the OP boots from the root partition.
Also notice the date on the thread, you're necrobumping a 3-year old problem.

As noted, this thread is three years old and the OP has not been back since March 2020. rkochar, please do not necrobump.
