[SOLVED] proprietary nvidia driver wont load using nvidia-xconfig

last week i install proprietary nvidia driver, and after that i run nvidia-xconfig to generate xorg.conf file. But after that my sddm just displaying black screen when loaded.
i try to reinstall my sddm, add nvidia to kernel parameter, and i add it to initframs too but nothing works. And after that i try to restore my xorg.conf and my sddm works again.
here is the xorg.confg generated by nvidia-xconfig

Section "Device"
    Identifier "Device0"
    Driver "nvidia"
    VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"
    BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
EndSection

and here is the original xorg.conf

Section "Device"
    Identifier "Device0"
    VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"
    ChipId 0x0
    ChipRev 0x0
    IRQ 0
EndSection

that is the only difference in the conf file before and after generated by the nvidia-xconfig.
my question is, what happen here? why nvidia-xconfig that supposed to configure my driver but ended up fail.

Re: [SOLVED] proprietary nvidia driver wont load using nvidia-xconfig

Why do you have an xorg.conf at all?

nvidia-xconfig is never the answer. Do yourself a favor, forget it exists.

so nvidia-xconfig never works for generating xorg.conf?
or xorg.conf should not exist in the first place?

Not either-or, both.

Assuming this is some https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XY_problem :
Remove any xorg.conf and post your Xorg log, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#General

Re: [SOLVED] proprietary nvidia driver wont load using nvidia-xconfig

nvidia-xconfig works in very simple cases, breaks in  a bunch of corner cases and if you were in a case where it had an actual benefit you'd need to understand more about xorg configuration so that writting it from scratch would be better.

That said that original "breaking" xorg.conf should never exist in that way, since by your own admission this wasn't created by nvidia-xconfig how was it created? That said yes, generally a xorg.conf should not exist and you're better off just trying to start xorg without one in .the vast majority of cases.

Re: [SOLVED] proprietary nvidia driver wont load using nvidia-xconfig

that is the only difference in the conf file before and after

Since the "original xorg.conf" (or rather: its device section) is complete and utter pointless nonsense, I suspect this is an nvidia-xconfig effort (must be - the typical junk that's produced by nvidia-xconfig is different from the junk that "Xorg -configure" produces) to get the nvidia chip/driver to work and then stripped down/altered to be inert.

Re: [SOLVED] proprietary nvidia driver wont load using nvidia-xconfig

Remove xf86-video-vesa

So this is an optimus setup, the nvidia GPU is available through https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PRIME
What was the point of generating the xorg.conf?

There're no outputs attached to the nvidia chip, if you for some reason want the server to run on the nvidia chip, ideally deactivate the intel IGP in the BIOS/UEFI and if that's not possible you'll need a https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PRIME#Reverse_PRIME setup.

Your system has 2 videocards , an integrated intel gpu and a discrete nvidia gpu . This kind of setup is referred to as an nvidia optimus system .

Apart from the links seth posted, the https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA_Optimus page may also be helpful .

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky
